I am an artist living in Northern California. I paint in an art studio I helped build that’s nestled at the foothills of the mountains and looks out onto agricultural fields. My inspiration comes greatly from nature’s landscapes. My first easel was built for me by my dad at the age 3 and it is the very best gift that I've ever received; as it lit the spark of creation in my soul. Art is and always has been a way for me to express my emotions, to center myself, to bring a bit of beauty into a chaotic world, to communicate a unique world view, and through it, perhaps connect with others who may need such a lens to reframe their own.
This life pursuit of artistic self-expression took hold during my first art class in the 6th grade; where I recognized my talent for drawing and an obsession was born. While attending a summer art program during my junior year of high school, I knew I had found my calling; ultimately leading to my formal training at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
I draw my inspiration from life, specifically from outdoor adventures. Experiencing dramatic geographical landscapes feels like I'm getting a glimpse of heaven on earth. Witnessing that type of beauty helps me to make sense of everything else in life. It's where I find my balance. So I spend a fair amount of time running and hiking on trails. And that's where all the magic happens for me, as ideas for paintings come pouring in. When I am in nature I am happy and at peace. Those are the emotions I try to capture within my art. My relationship between art, myself and the outdoors has only grown as I seek out more of life through my travels. Most recently trips including trekking through the Swiss Alps and cycling through farmlands of Switzerland, traipsing through the steep and jagged hillsides of Cinque Terre and exploring the city of Rome, discovering many of the treasures on display in the Vatican Museum; all of which has provided inspiration for work to come.
My style of painting borders on the surreal, incorporating elements of life and beauty. I like to think of my art as surreal-realism, adding a playful twist on reality, allowing a person to be captivated by asking, “What am I looking at?” Currently much of my paintings are in the medium size format, but I'm moving into large format to magnify the details that go unnoticed and bring them into focus by making them 'larger than life'. My work encompasses the use of acrylic, oil, watercolors, pen and ink, pencil, charcoal and sometimes sharpies. I am excited to share my art with you either through an original, lithograph or commissioned piece. So I invite you to enjoy my site and consider purchasing a bit of joy for your home or for a friend or loved one that may be moved by my art.
